All Mixed Up
June 1, 2020 @ 10:00 am - June 14, 2020 @ 2:00 pm
Julia Blackler, Carol Martin, Jane Nicholas and Lynda Cotter are a group of local artists and friends who support each other in their creative journeys.
They encourage each other to silence their inner critic which may be holding them back and to just ‘do it’. Taking risks and having fun and following Julia’s quote, “It’s only art,” is the inspiration behind this exhibition.
Julia has been painting for many years enjoying several mediums, drawing, water colour and acrylics, often incorporating collage. Her inspiration comes from what is going on around her, nature and emotions. She has taken part in many exhibitions and held exhibitions in her home with the Bay of Plenty Garden Art Festival.
Carol is a self-taught artist who loves the camaraderie of local artists. She enjoys using collage and acrylics and especially the drama of black and white pen work. She belonged to a collage collective and some of her work was exhibited in Australia and the USA.
Jane has explored various forms and mediums and enjoys the combination of acrylic or water colour with collage to create an abstract style of work. There is an Asian influence in much of her work which comes from the experience of living in Tokyo.
Lynda works mostly with collage using recycled fabrics and old papers. Her work is often nostalgic and whimsical. Her experience as a teacher and play therapist has been an inspiration and led to her own creative exploration. Children bring joy and fearlessness into their art and as an adult Lynda tries to keep that as her inspiration.
