Tauranga Porcelain Artists Exhibition
March 23 @ 9:00 am - April 5 @ 2:00 pm
The Tauranga Porcelain Artists are presenting an exhibition of their art opening on the 23rd March 2020 for two weeks at the Carlton Gallery in Katikati.
There will be displays of Traditional work as well as more Modern Designs.
On some days one of the members will be there as an “Artist in Residence” demonstrating this unique art form.
The art of painting porcelain had its beginnings in China and goes back many centuries. It is an absorbing hobby as it lends itself to a variety of techniques and styles from traditional to contemporary.
Each piece is hand painted and/or penned onto porcelain then kiln fired a number of times with layers of paint and design added in each subsequent firing. Artists are limited only by their imagination when it comes to choosing what to paint and how to paint it.
The members, who come from across the Bay of Plenty, meet each Thursday at the Art and Craft Centre in Elizabeth Street West in Tauranga. Time is from 9am to midday, sometimes going for longer if there is a teaching workshop or a guest tutor. It is a very friendly group where members share ideas and techniques and encourage beginners to explore this rewarding art form.
